It was late in the night, an there was a soft knock on the door. On the other side could be felt confusion, and an ache combined with compassion and a desire to understand. It was a feminine presence. Leiyn or Lepri, it had to be one of those two. With a sigh, Kabe let his meditation go. Now that he was more focused on the here-and-now, he could sense her agitation as well, which was part of what powered and fueled her confusion. The white wookiee unfolded his legs and slipped off the bed he had been sitting on, and slowly crossed to the door, letting it slide to the side.
On the other side was Lepri, who looked upset. “Can I talk to you for a little while,” she asked with a crack in her voice. He stepped aside and gestured for her to come in, and as she slinked past him, he shut the door. Whatever she was going to say, he was sure that she didn’t want someone else just walking in. He walked back over and sat on the bed, gesturing for her to pull up a chair from the nearby computer desk. “What’s got you so upset dear one,” he asked quietly.
At his question, Lepri felt the wall she had built up to keep the tears at by crack slightly. It was going to be a bit hard to get through this without any tears… especially with Jeryndi in his current position and predicament. “I… need to understand why I don’t…. I.. I keep getting mad at Jeryndi for no apparent reason. There’s something in his presence that just keeps irritating me, and I don’t know why. I’ve had the urge to strangle him more than once, and it hasn’t been an idea I’ve dismissed lightly. I don’t understand why. It upsets me, especially since I care for him greatly, and I’ve never thought about that before. And then… When I try to reach out to him, I feel a blank spot half the time. That bothers me too. And… he holds his sabaac cards really tight to his chest, so its really hard for anyone to get in… even for me. I don’t understand it. I was hoping you might.”
“Ah. I see. I’ve noticed you’ve been off the last few days, especially around Jeryndi. I thought the two of you might have got in an argument over something trivial. But as it went on, I realized it wasn’t,” he said softly as he stroked his chin fur. His eyes had gone slightly distant, looking down different lines of the Force, and the things he saw there. “You don’t feel you can discuss it with him either, because when you’ve tried you just want to choke him more. And of course, because of those other reasons, you don’t feel you can discuss it with him as well, correct?” Lepri nodded softly. He nodded in response. “Well, I have a little bit of knowledge I can impart here.”
“You see, whenever a Jedi spends time with others that are strong in the Force, and many times strong in the ways of the Jedi with his fellow brothers and sisters in the Force, a bond forms between them. It is most commonly formed with a Master and apprentice. It happens with others though. For example, look at the Bond between Murra and me. Ours is exceptionally strong, though we have gone through no more than other Master and apprentice pairs from the days of the Clone Wars. She’s strong in the Force, tough and cocky in typical Corellian Jedi fashion. I’m from a long line of wookiees. We’re not even the same species, yet we have a bond that is so very strong. The next step up from a Force Bond is a Force Chain. For the most part it bonds a person so much that their life force, and essence within the Force interacts with the other of the bond. It goes both ways. When Ith’li Shaon was struck down over Bastion by Lumiya, Murra felt it with great resounding pain. I felt it as well, and was unprepared for it. I didn’t feel his pain, so much as I felt Lumiya’s passing. However, when Murra felt Ith’li’s pain, it was real for her. I felt it too. Within moments I realized what it was and was able to recover, and then through my bond with her, help her back to her feet as well.
“The bond you have with Jeryndi is strong, and is very important to you, because of how you care for him. The thing is, with what happened at Altar, that connection has been severed. That is why he feels so ‘dim’ to you in the Force… so hard to find the right things to do or say to get him to open up, to have the relationship you’re used to, even if he –is- injured. That’s something that doesn’t bother you much, or him really. Neither one of you will let something like that slow you down. You need to rebuild your bond with him, as do we all. He is going to need it, and I know that he’s going to need you and Leiyn most of all.”
She nodded softly, feeling the truth of his words as he explained in his way the problem. Eventually she nodded, then looked at him. “I know you are about to leave soon to go look for Thira. How can I rebuild this link, if I am to go with you,” she asked softly. “That is a good question. Ponder it for the time we have left, and you might find an answer. Focus not on the problem, but the solution.”
With that, sensing a dismissal, she stood slowly, and slipped back out of his room, alone with her thoughts, but feeling better, and much more certain.
