Time and space shivered like a scorned lover, brushed by the chill touch of winter's icy fingers. From within that shiver of pseudomotion a dark shape lanced into reality, springing forth on twin jets of flame. Starlight reflected off the polished hull, shimmering and distorting with its refined curves.
Below hung a quiet and peaceful world, oblivious to the vessel that glidded over its axis, cruising slowly, as if it were a child that had lost at a childhood game and was now procrastinating going home to tell its parents it had failed.
Inside the cockpit it was somber. Noone had really said much over the last few hours. Kabe's white furred frame shifted in his form-chair slowly, his heart heavy. Sitting in his lap was unattended food, that had only been idly picked at as he looked out the viewscreen. Malla had asked him some time ago what he was doing, as they didn't really have a distination. He hadn't answered, but merely given her a look... one that she had seen in his eyes for a long time, but in the last few months, he had been free of. Pain, spiritual pain. She had only done what she could to comfort him, and had stayed with him silently for a while.
She knew that he liked to walk and wander when he was of troubled spirit, and while there wasn't much walking to do on the Legacy itself, he could certainly wander from system to system.
Behind him the sound of nearly silent feet slinked through the hall. Nearly silent... even in the Force. He knew she could come up making less noise, but he knew she wanted to make sure he knew she was there, but didn't want to intrude, instead lend her silent support. Lepri slid down into the copilot's seat.
Her own eyes were shrouded in spiritual pain, but mental and emotional as well. There was someone she cared about out there, struggling, and she couldn't help him at all. She knew Jery was in trouble, but she also knew, instictively... the will of the Force, that she could not interfere, nor would she.
Jeryndi was coming into a new purpose. For good or bad, she didn't know, but she knew what would happen next would make or break him on many levels.
After a few moments Kabe smiled slightly, feeling the thoughts and emotions of his student .He swiveled toward her slightly. "He really is that important to you?" he asked softly.
"Yes. He is." She looked over at him, the careful mask she had put in place a while ago cracking some. "I'm worried for him too." Kabe reached over and gave her a gentle reassuring squeeze of her shoulder. "Can't dwell on it too much though. You know how we live." Lepri nodded.
Silence hung in the air.
"I have every confidence in him, you know. He survives when others would have perished. Same as me," he murmured softly.
Lepri smiled, though a tear rolled down her face, opposite of Kabe. She didn't wipe at it, lest she give it away. "Yeah," she said noncomittally.
A light on the control board begain blinking, with a matching beep. "Incoming transmission," the computer chimed in a soft feminine voice. It was a recent installation Kabe had put in, upgrading the AI even more than he had before. He reached over and turned on the com. A ghostly holo of Jedi Master Caedmon Cato flickered into being at fifty percent normal size in front of them.
It played out the message before Kabe, and he felt himself go numb. After a few moments, he turned and punched on the intercom. "Anybody interested in Jedi affairs, report to the Bridge. I have a message that should be heard."
He sat back, and had the message rewinded. Once everyone was present that was going to be present, he let it play, guaging their own reactions with his.
What would he do now? Even as the message played, he was currently working with the navicomp, preparing the haul toward Endor. It was time to talk with Master Cato. There were things that he had to say that were overdue, though not unfriendly... but would have bearing on the future course of the Jedi.
(Melissa, feel free to reply to this if you like. ;D)
