"..And next up on Point-Counterpoint, we go to the hottest topic in political circles right now.. Isolationism. I am your host, Gina Nevaro, with our two panelists.. on the right, Sylar Wolfe, and on the left, coincidentally her sister, Cierra Wolfe. Ladies, thank you for joining me. Let's jump right into this then. Isolationism is always a heavily discussed topic across the Consortium, but it has reached new heights this week with the arrival of over seven hundred delegates from across the Galaxy to a summit to discuss peace talks and alliances. This is a first for Hapan history, and some view it as a bold step forward to provide leadership for a Galaxy in desperate need for it. Cierra, let's start with you. How does this benefit the Consortium?"
Cierra: "Gina, thanks for having me. The opportunity here is incredible. We have been through so much over the past few years, and now we've come out as one of--if not the--strongest government in the Galaxy. That puts us in a position for building up allies and shaping the galactic scene for years--even decades to come. We can be the bright burning ex--"
Sylar: "--burning is right, Ci. Burning is what we did during this war, under the heavy fist of the Empire. Burning is what we did when the false king Jackel was placed in charge, and we had to fight for our own independence. Burning is what we did to our dear Queen Kara's body, after she was savagely murdered. Every time we open our borders, we get burned. Yes, we are in a place of strength.. but we are not completely whole ourselves. We can't squander resources and energy on--"
"--on so many trying to rebuild in the wake of the war, just as we have done? Isolationism is so archaic, it's hard to believe it's being seriously discussed like this. Now is not the time to withdraw back into our shells and pretend no one else in the Galaxy exists. Now is the time to be an example, to be a leader. Coruscant has had its day time and time again. Let Hapes be the new Galactic Core."
".. Because that's worked out so well for Coruscant."
"Ahem. This topic has taken the capital by storm with the delegation getting started, with peaceful protests in the streets, disrupting passageway to the Palace and causing small clashes against NavSec forces. So far, there has not been any violence but should this be concerning, Sylar?"
"Of course it should be concerning. The will of the people is being ignored--"
"--Thirty-eight percent isn't exactly the people--"
"--of a portion of the people is being ignored and met by armed security forces. This has the potential explode under the wrong circumstances. The Queen needs to move carefully right now, lest the wrong message gets sent, and something terrible happens."
"There is no concern for violence unless the protesters start something themselves. NavSec won't escalate unless forced to. The right to protest is a protected right.. as long as it's in an orderly fashion."
"Excellent point. Next, let's talk Mandalorians. How necessary is the occupation, Cierra?"
"I see this as an unfortunate but necessary evil, Gina. They chose their side in the war, and this is the repercussion of their choice. Ideally there would be a time for the occupation to end with the transfer of power to a trusted--"
"--Trust? How can you ever trust a war-faring nation to ever be more than a war-faring nation? They live for war and will always seek war, when given the chance. The cycle will continue if we allow it."
"Thank you, Sylar. And lastly, Queen Maxima's approval rating is holding strong with progressives and moderates, but dropping with conservatives. What does she need to do differently?"
"Moderation. Right now she's leaning very far left with her ideology, which is concerning for those on the right. Honestly, I think she needs to consolidate power with a conservative noble house through marriage and seek unification."
"How outdated are you, Sy? Queen Kara was a known progressive, and she was had one of the highest bipartisan approvals in the past century. Some moderation may be needed, but Queen Maxima is still young and finding her own place out of her sister's shadow. We must give her time and have faith."
Gina: "Ladies, thank you both. Up next, we'll be going live to the Palace for ongoing coverage of the summit.."
