Jedi Council
The summons was sent via text to Merek's personal comm channel. It respectfully requested his presence in the council chamber. It did not specify the reason, but the tone didn't indicate a reprimand. The message gave him about an hour to finish up with any intervening personal business or duties.
Merek Steele - Jedi Knight
Merek frowned as he studied the summons then sighed. For the moment he was working on the innards of his own ship, Star Slider. It was a Baudo Star Yacht that he'd bought years back on the cheap. The thing had been … well it had been quite a rough piece of work, especially for a yacht. He'd spent the time when he wasn't training with Leiyn Dar, or somebody else, or doing runs working on it, getting it in serviceable shape. The old hyperdrive had been ripped out, a new one put in, a Class .75. He'd replaced the light cannon or rather… he'd made use of the mountings. The cannon had been cannibalized for something else before he'd ever gotten the ship. A new heavier one was in it's place, along with a couple of other additions. The weapons were hidden in compartments, and the whole thing… well he still had plans for it. For now, it was fast in hyperspace and sublight, handled great in space and atmo, had some teeth, decent deflectors and it was his.
Once the comlink was stuffed back in a pocket he began wiggling out of the components compartments. A quick shower and a change into green and charcoal Jedi uniform and robes, sporting his representation of the Corellian Jedi tradition he headed to meet the council. Once there, he made his way to the meeting in the council's chamber, standing off to the side, hands at the small of his back, at parade rest waiting. Most Jedi folded their hands in front of them when waiting, and sometimes Merek did as well. This however felt different, and due to the semi formal/informal nature of the communication he'd received, he reverted back on more militaristic habits from his earlier days while waiting to be addressed.
Council
After a moment, an aide motioned him before the council. A few of the seats were notably empty, leaving four masters in attendance. Two were human, one was Duro, and the fourth was Ithorian. They all nodded in greeting, and the woman spoke. "Thank you for answering our summons so quickly, Merek." She smiled politely but looked grave. "Due to your background, we have decided that you are most qualified to undertake the investigation into the murder of Hetta Bishop and her two assistants." She explained, nodding to the aide who had ushered him in. The girl offered him a data pad. "All the pertinent information is available to you. We would like you to determine what happened and why. We would also like this done in a quiet manner. There is already much suspicion, and we seek to repair what damage has been done to morale within the Order... You are free to use your own methods, Merek. We will make available whatever resources you require. You are also free to locate Solomon Tekal if you can, though we prefer a thorough investigation of all evidence before we presume he is indeed the guilty party..."
Merek
Merek stopped before the members of the Council, hands now folded in front of him, listening. He paid strong attention to the Force, letting it bring him more awareness, and of the emotional state of the Masters before him. Putting him on the investigation was noted, his mind efficiently filing that information away. More so did he study the expressions of the Council members, looking for micro-expressions, the barest hint of a whiff of a reaction that might not have come through consciously, or maybe it did. Just so did he pay attention with his eyes, was his attention in the Force. “Very well,” he said, a little more formally than usual. “To that end, I may request personnel to assist in the investigation. I was aware that an inquiry into Darien and Solomon Tekal were underway. It might be useful to have the investigator who interviewed them with me on this.”
Council
"We will present you with written orders to assign whomever you wish to assist you." The master said, nodding. "Merek, you do realize the gravity of what we ask of you?" She frowned slightly. "We fully expect you to investigate and vett every member of this council as well as all Jedi present at the temple compound during the incident..."
Merek
"You expect me to find a murderer or murderers, regardless of wherever this goes," Merek said, glancing at them each in turn, his steel gray eyes assessing each of them with a piercing gaze. "And I intend to follow it wherever it leads. I do not intend to immediately hang a noose around Solomon Tekal's neck on the grounds of circumstances. It may not be what it looks like. If this were a ghetto on some other world... It probably would be a situation where the simplest explanation would likely be the most accurate. Something like this demands wider vision, and complete due diligence. I can only hope that this investigation will root out those really involved, whether it was Solomon or not."
Council
"We expect you to return our trust to us. May the Force be with you, Merek." She said solemnly. It was clearly a dismissal, dramatic as it might have been.
Merek
Merek bowed his head slightly then performed a crisp about-face and made his way to the girl, the aide from before, who showed him out, datapad in hand. Walking along he scanned it for a few moments. "Right then, time to get to work," he murmured under his breath and stroked one hand through his mostly pepper with a little bit of salt mustache and goatee.
