After a few minutes, she looked up at him. "Where do we go from here?" she said.
"I was hoping outside and to the bedroom myself." he said, smiling at her with the Quinn grin.
"What? With no marriage?" she said, pretending to be scandalized.
"Something tells me... wait!"said Quinn.
Quinn ran outside. "ASTRID!"
She turned. "Yes?" she said.
"I need a witness real quick!" he called.
She walked back to him. "What for?" she said curiously.
At that point, Quinn went into his shirt, and pulled out a crystal, offering it to Kiri. "Kiri, sorry this is short notice, but will you marry me?"
She stared at it then him. "Quinn what is this?" she said, staring at the beautiful rose-colored crystal bemusedly. "The finest adegan crystal I've seen in a long time," said Astrid.
"Not adegan." Quinn said. "It's an Ilum crystal. Adegan crystals are always either blue or green. Ilum crystals are exceedingly rare since the destruction of Ilum by the Sith."
"At any rate, hes given you a crystal fit to make a lightsaber, Kiri - and if I don't miss my guess, a promise to train you, too," said Astrid. She shot a glance at Quinn. "That plus the promise of marriage - I'd say you're getting a deal!" Quinn merely stood there, waiting for Kiri's response.
"Do I eventually get a ring, too?" Kiri asked.
"As soon as I can get one, yes."
"Then yes, I'll marry you," she said.
A quiet 'Ahemm' was heard from the ceiling speaker.
Then Quinn smiled, handed Kiri the stone, and turned to Astrid. "Captain Erickson, will you please wed us, under your authority as a ship's captain?"
"Beat me to the punch," muttered the 'Bird.
Astrid stared at them flatfooted, then recovered. "Give me about a half-hour, then, yes," she said.
Quinn looked at Kiri. "Might want to go with her, maybe she has something you can wear."
"Make that an hour and a half," said Astrid, " and YOU get something other than those shabby fategues!!!!!!!!!"
"Unfortunately Astrid, everything else was back on my assault shuttle." Quinn said dryly. "And nothing Jeff has will fit me, I guarantee you that."
She stopped, thinking. "Not really, Quinn. I can get you a formal outfit from my home planet that will fit you."
Quinn's eyebrow raised. "Formal outfit from Corellia? That's a new one on me."
"Not Corellia. Home - My home. Where my mother and father live now. It's kind-of a saronghish type thing."
"Sorry Astrid, but it's prudent to wear something formal where I come from. Besides, this is a quick interim. I was thinking of having a main wedding later on."
"Fine, then - embarrass your bride. SHE is gonna look drop-dead gorgeous, If Bird and I have anything to say about it!" said Astrid, and walked away tugging Kiri with her.
Quinn walked for the room where he was staying, and asked the Bird. "Okay, how clean can I get these fatigues?"
"Ahem," said the Bird. "If you'll look in the lower left drawer, you'll find something more suitable."
Quinn did, hoping for a military fashion at least. "Bird, I don't recall having any spare clothes on board..."
What he pulled out was a full formal tux, tie and tails.

*Gavin focused on the force, immersing himself in it's waves, he reached out and began to center his energy around himself. In his mind he drew the illusion of himself standing near the entrance to the refresher unit, taking great pangs in the force to make the illusion believable. It was a gift the council had told him he possessed, the ability to create believable illusions. An ability they warned would need to be practiced hundred-fold. So while waiting for Callista to arrive Gavin was practicing. soon enough they would actually be arriving at their new haven.. Callista walked out of the fresher. "Gavin?" she said uncertainly, looking at him, standing still and quiet. She reached out to tap him on the shoulder, only to have her hand pass through it. She jumped, then started looking around for the Real Gavin. Gavin smiled as she passed through the other image of him and then cut off his connection to the illusion, allowing it to dissipate. He turned towards Callista and smiled.* "Now there's a sight for sore eyes, good morning beautiful, I was thinking about you this morning. Master Ti says this is the day we finally make planetfall again. Wanted to keep you close you know" at this he smiled She looked at him. "Gavin, have you seen your uncle?" she said. H and I were supposed to have lightsaber practice this morning, and he didn't show up. Have you seen him?"
"No, and I haven't felt him either. But he could be masking his presence. I am worried about him though. He hasn't been the same now for almost a year. I don't like it, but I have learned to take it in stride. Perhaps we'll see him when we land though." "I'm worried too, "Callista confessed. "He seemed so surly around Master Darkflame and Thomas. Almost as if he was angry with them for some reason. And it seems to me that it would be hard for him to hide on this small a ship. But perhaps I'm worrying a bit too much." "Yeah he's kinda down on the word love now. He was in love with Master Darkflame, but she never reciprocated his feelings. Now he is insistent that love is of the Darkside. It's one of those points we don't see eye to eye on." "But......I think....maybe....I love you," she stammered. "Does that mean that it's wrong?" She looked at him, a worried expression on her face. "No, it's not wrong. It's one of the greatest things we could even experience. It allows you to draw strength from it, and I know I love you. I just know, and now is the time we have to hold onto these things. They can only strengthen who we are." She smiled at him, and said,"Then maybe we better talk to Master Darkflame or Master Ti about this." "I agree, Master Darkflame strikes me as being more willing to discuss this type of stuff. She has a concept of love. Master Ti is more of a predatory individual, though she might know what it's like" "I think Master Ti likes to scare people sometimes, Gavin. She's got a kind heart, though. But I think Master Darkflame is the one to talk to."
"After all, if she's pregnant, she knows about love - and .....sex." After saying the last word, she blushed bright red. "One would think you were trying to seduce me." he grinned "So the question is where do find her?" When he said 'seduce' she turned even redder. "I think she and Timothy are practicing in the gym, " she got out.
"Don't worry I won't do anything to make you uncomfortable. Although I don't think Timothy likes me. He kinda scares me to tell the truth." "He scares me too," admitted Callista. There's something odd about him, something the Adults won't tell us about him. They say he's her Protector, but he isn't a Jedi and they won't explain what they mean.. I think he loves her, but sometimes I've seen him watching her with an almost cold expression on his face, like he's judging her, for frak's sake," Callista said. "I do know that she's the only Jedi with the title of Investigator - and again the adults wouldn't say why." "I hate it when they keep secrets, don't you?" "Secrets can hurt sometimes, especially if there is a lie involved. There is something I need to tell you in fact." She stopped and looked at him fearfully. "What?" she demanded "This just happened so it's not a secret I am keeping from you. I told my uncle that I loved you and he attacked me. Said I was falling to the Darkside. We clashed sabers, then he went nuts and if not for Master Ti's intervention he might have tried to kill me. He exiled himself in his room. Which is probably why we haven't seen him. He persists to accuse me of toeing the line like my father, however I fear he's crossing that line." "Your father? Why does your father worry him? And what line are you talking about - the one between Darkside and Lightside? He's a Master. Masters don't cross that line.......do they?"
"I don't know, Count Dooku was a Jedi Master and we know what he did. My father was always considered a Shadow Master. He never crossed the line, but his tactics were different. He seemed to think my father was evil, simply because they didn't see eye to eye. Yes to that question though, the line between dark and light." "Shadow Master?" said Callista. "One who walks the line between light and dark, child. A difficult balance, but one that Charles Harkness managed very well. I was privileged to know him," said Master Kathryn, stepping out of a doorway. "I sensed you'd need to talk with me, come into my cabin," she added. Gavin smiled at her, and followed her into her room. "Good Morning Master Darkflame, how goes it?" "As well as can be expected," she said quietly. She giuded them over to the small, booth-like eating area. the cabin was neat, and Timothy's Matuka staff stood at the head of the bed, as if guarding it. Now, what is your questions," she said, after she'd served them all glasses of water and some small cakes. Gavin caught sight of the staff and nervously looked around, half expecting Timothy to pop out from under the bed and scare them. "Here's the deal Master Darkflame, I love Callista and I think she loves me. We both knew you were familiar with the concept and could give us some insight into the world of love. Master Harkness was quick to condemn me to the darkside after I told him I loved Callista. Love isn't of the darkside is it?" She looked down at her stomach, and Gavin could have sworn he saw a rueful grin before she looked back at up at them. "I'm not an expert," she said quietly, " and I suggest you also talk to Master Shaak Ti about this. But no, love is not - in my opinion - of the darkside. Passion, and possessiveness are, since both can lead to dark acts easily. But love...no, love isn't dark." "Neither is sex, since I sense that's your next question, Gavin." She smiled at him. *It was Gavin's turn to become a bright shade of crimson when she said the dreaded S word. He could only imagine that Callista was laughing at him from where she sat.* "So in effect then it is ok for me to love her, that is a great relief, although I may have a hard time convincing my uncle to see things that way. You know he attacked me, right?" She nodded. "Yes I do. And I know what triggered his revulsion against love.It has driven him from this ship, and may lead him down a very Dark path, Gavin." She seemed sad when she said this. "I know what triggered it also, he loved you, but you are not at all to blame for anything. He knows full we...WHAT!! HE LEFT!!! When, How??" "Two jumps back, I believe. He took one of the smaller ships, and the Dark has muddied the pathway behind him. I believe one of the greater Dark Ones calls him through his hate." She was watching Gavin as she said this, her expression as they had never seen it, almost measuring him. Callista felt a whisper in the Force as Kathryn studied Gavin in an impartial manner. "I can save him, if there is one thing my father taught me, he said it was never too late to save one you love. I knew after he and I fought that he was falling to the darkside. I even tried to bring it up to him, but he was so insistent that his course was right and I was of the darkness that it was like talking to a wall. It wasnt your fault though, I pray you don't try to blame yourself, he knew what he was doing. I have to track him down, I know I can track him down and save him before it's too late." "Dear gods," whispered Kathryn to herself. "This is one case where I WILL intervene." She straightened in her chair, becoming a remote, judge-like figure. Gone was the friendly Master Kathryn - this woman was one that neither of them had ever seen before. Callista realized she was finally seeing what a Jedi Investigator was - half police officer, half Judge, and with no pity, no mercy. "You will not follow him, Gavin Harkness." she said simply. "For if you do, you will become a part of the Darkness itself, and a greater threat to us all than he will ever be. IF you follow this path, you will kill anyone who loves you, including Callista. Do you understand? John Harkness may yet come back to the Light, but not if you follow him," "Do I understand, not really. He's my family, how am I supposed to understand anything anymore. With everything going on now the only thing I do know for sure is that.." he turned to Callista "Is that I love you, and always will. I won't put you in danger, not even to save my family. Master Darkflame, I guess this is farewell for now, may the force be with you." "No," said Master Kathryn. "It is not farewell, unless you intend to follow him. What is your decision, Gavin?" Her voice had changed, become gentle once more. "Do I think I could find him and save him yes. Do I think I could do it alone, probably not. Will I follow him, doubtful. It's not a fun feeling when your hands are tied. I want to save him, I want to bring him back, but it seems so far away." "No it is not," Kathryn agreed gently. "It's never easy to let someone go, even it it is the will of the Force. I know how you feel, however. I lost my best friend, John's half-sister Gaerial, to the Darkside. Believe me, I know how you feel." Her expression was sad and compassionate. "So where do we go from here. What do we do to move on, to overcome that sense of loss. I don't want to harden myself and become bitter like he became, but I also don't want to dismiss things too lightly. I guess it's all a learning process still. I know that Jedi Knight is not too far off, but there is so much I want to learn first. My destiny lies along the path to saving the less fortunate. Least that's what my father told me growing u." She patted him on the shoulder. "You are fortunate to be living in a time when the rules change, young padawan. Things that were not possible before will now become possible, and rules may change. Be flexible, and your kind loving self, and you will manage," she said." and please, before you chase off after your uncle, come and talk to me?" "Very well, I will do so, if and when the time comes. For now I will do my best to manage with what we have. Besides, someone has to take care of Callista" he cast a quirky glance in her direction "Silly, I have to take care of you!" she said cheerfully." "I am guessing it's about time for chow, I am gonna go do my part to help serve." said Gavin contentedly. "You'll find that might be a harder task than you think" he chuckled. "Wanna head down there with me?" "Yeah," she said, and gave him a grin, then slipped her hand into his. Pausing for a moment after the stepped into the hall Gavin awkwardly spun her around to face him and leaned in to kiss her. However in his clumsiness he missed, landing instead on her nose. "Oops sorry, I'll have to try that again sometime"
"Why not now?" she said grinning, and kissed him back with better aim. Whie Malreaux walked by at the moment they kissed and shook his head, finally speaking "Get a room you two."
Gavin flushed bright red and turned towards him "You know, if you could face your own feelings about Scout you could have the pleasure of having Get a room said to you also, friend."
"I..uh..uh." and he hurried off
The door closed behind them with a soft click, although Callista swore she heard a soft chuckle. "Now where were we" at this point he kissed her and did not miss, but again was interrupted by the youngling Micah "Ewwwwww....yucky....stop being yucky and take me to get food.." then he paused "Please" Callista started laughing. "Looks like HE needs education, too," she snorted out finally. "We'll get you food, little one," she added After a rather bland meal, Gavin and Callista had remained in the mess hall cleaning up, along with Whie and Scout the latter looking very impatient with someone. Snorting to himself Gavin just shook his head and finished cleaning. Whie left, leaving both of them with Scout, who looked over to them and asked. "What's it like, you know love, I am older than you both and yet you both seem to have grasped the concepts of it. I can't get him to see me as more than a Padawan. Ever since Vjun he has kept himself so distant. It actually hurts to think about it."
Callista looked at Gavin. "I'm not sure - we just kinda fell into it," she said.
"Well damn, I was hoping I could convince him that what we have is love, but he doesn't seem to interested in facing that right now. I guess I am just too ugly or something, too weak to ever be loved by someone like him. I should have let Asaji Ventress kill me, it would have made the last 6 months easier on me."
"Don't say that," said Callista fiercely. She turned and dashed out, catching up with Whie quickly. "are you and IDIOT?" she demanded of him.
"Me, no, why do you ask?"
"Because Scout loves you, and you love her, and you won't tell her so and now she's wishing that Ventriss DID kill her," said Callista indignantly.
"That may be the case, but you didn't see my vision. I saw my own death, and everything I have ever had a vision of has come to pass. Would you expect me to tell her I love her, then the vision of my death to come true. Can you say in good faith that I put her through that. I can't be responsible for hurting someone like that"
"You're hurting her worse by not telling her," said Callista. "Even if she only has you around for a liottle while - that's better than nothing. 'sides, Master Erickson says nothing in the future is totally fixed, and she's a WAY-BETTER precog than YOU, Whei!"
"Well that may be the case, but how could I in good faith love, and then be gone. She's had enough heartache as it is. What happens when I tell her, and then 3 days later I die. How does she get through that grief. I don;t know how to help"
"You're an ijit," said Callista finally. "and a chicken. Let HER figure it out, dummy!"
"It comes so much easier for you, you don't have to worry about seeing your own death. Tell her to find me later, after I meditate. I'll be in my room, then we'll talk. I think I am gonna go talk to a Master or something first." and he bowed and left

*Gavin sat with Scout, consoling her, lending her an ounce of his strength.*
"He will come around, he has seen things that many of us haven't. You have got to trust in yourself above all. When you find trust in yourself then everything else will come along easier. I sincerely believe he will come around."
*Whie had reached his room by now and was fiddling around with the door trying to get inside.*
A figure stepped out of the shadows. "What are you running from, Padawan?" said a feminine voice.
"The future" he said before the locked clicked open and he dodged into his room trying to seal off the door
He found the door still open, as Master Ti followed him
"Excuse me Master Ti, but I don't need to talk about it. I saw a vision of my death, and now Scout wants me to love her. I do in a way, but I can't love her and then run off and die. Your Padawan has all the love bases covered anyways."
She entered, closi g the door behind her. Looking at him, she smiled, showing her sharp teeth. "Everyone dies, Padawan. It's what you do in the meantime that makes the difference. Now, are you predator, or prey?"
"is this a trick question, if I were to be a predator I'd have to be stalking something, if I had to be prey then I'd be the stalked. I guess I am a little of both. I just want whats best for everyone, but is it worth the gaping wound I could open up within her if I were to let her know how I felt and then did die. That's the question that refuses to be answered."
"Then let me answer it for you. You are not Prey, Padawan Whie. Prey would have died back at the Temple. Prey would not have helped us guide the Younglings to safety. Prey would have cowered and died, as many of the Healers did. You are not Prey. That makes you.....?"
"Predator I suppose, so I guess regardless of the visions I have I need to chase after something if it really is that important. YOu know I just might do that, your padawan seems to have been successful at it."
She laughed."You already know what to chase, Whei. Go and do it," and she stepped smiling back from the door, whicopened telekinetically.
*Whie practically ran, his feet seeming never to touch the ground, nearly bowling Callista over as he ran by her, when he got into the mess hall he looked at Gavin who excused himself to disappear down the hall where he met Callista, who had picked up several younglings along the way.* *Looking at Scout, Whie said with very short breath. Sco....ut... I....love....you....will...you...take...me...for...what...little...time...I...may...have...left
"Yes," she said, tears in her eyes. "Yes - we almost had no time, so let's use what stolen time we have."
*Whie smiled and placed his arm around her waist and walked down the hall to where they could talk in private. Gavin meanwhile had excused himself from Callista to work on a project. After a few hours the youngling that had become enamored with Gavin walked to Callista's room and knocked on the door."
She opened it. "Hi, Micah. Can I help you with something?"
"Miss Casta, Jedi Gavin tell me come get you and bring you to lounge. He say he want to talk wif you. U gonna come wif me?"
"Yes," she said, and 'lifted' the youngling, tickling him. "Let's go," she added as she set him down.
"Wait, befoe we go I need you to cwose ur eyes." *when she did he took her hand and led her towards the lounge. After the reached the door he led her into the lounge.* "Ok u can open" *when she did she saw Gavin sitting at a smaller table with two candles lit, and plates waiting at each end.* "Hello darling, I've been waiting:"
She blushed. Anything she was about to say, however, was totally swept away by a hrde of younglings chasing each other to dries of "Tag! Not it! Did! Did NOT!"
they stopped abruptly when they saw the table and the two older padawans, and one of them said, "EWWWWW......MUShy STUff! katofcorellia (6/30/2007 10:57:42 PM):
*Gavin smiled and blushed a little bit, and the younglings ran out of the room, following a rather flighty Whie Malreaux. Micah however stayed behind, walking over to Gavin he handed him a cloth and smiled*
"U sure bout dis Gavin."
"yup, don't worry, you have the force to help you"
*Gavin fastened the cloth around Micah's eyes and spoke to him ok trust in the force. YOu will do fine."
*Micah set himself and began to feel the force in the little breath he had become awakened too and walked towards the countertop where the drinks were located. He picked up a bottle of sparkiling juice and poured glasses for both Gavin and Callista.*
"I thought it would be a good lesson in perception for him, although I am a far cry from a master. I missed you"
"You're doing very well," Callista said to Micah. "I missed you too," she said softly. "Where are we going, do you know?"
"I heard we are going to a place called Vervun, thats what I overheard Master Ti speaking about. I think Master Erickson has been there before." he paused as Micah set a plate of fish in front of both of them, nearly dropping it in Callista's lap but he managed to save it.* "I wanted to bring you here before we made planetfall, figured we could talk."
"About what?" she said, puzzled.
"Us, I realize that as young as we are, there is no one or nothing in the world who means more to me than you. I love you Callista, and well this may sound funny but I gotta say it." *He rose to his feet and walked over to her and took her hand in his. As if on cue Micah walked over to him and handed him something. It was rather plain, but the corusca gem in the center made it appear more.* "I constructed this earlier today, and while it's not much it's what I have to offer you." *he swallowed and dropped to one knee* "Callista..will you marry me?"
She stared at him, astonished. "Jedi can't marry," she said finally.
"Yes they can, Jolee Bindo married. Rumor has it that Master Darkflame is gonna marry Timothy also. Can't say for sure, but it trickled down to me. The way I see it though, is that we are living in a new era, we have to adapt to the changing times. There is no telling how long any of us are going to be around, we have to be willing to hold onto everything we can. Your my everything and I want to spend the rest of my life with you, regardless of what happens. The more and more I think about the more convinced I am that this is the right course of action."
"Well, let's complete our training first, Gavin," she said, practically
"That we can do, but I want you to be my wife when we finish. I love you" and then he slipped the ring onto her finger "YOu will wear it...right"
"Yes, but I don't have anything for you but my heart." she said breathlessly.
"Your heart is all I need." *he leaned in and kissed her, not missing this time, it was deep and passionate, until both felt a tug on their robes.* "Eat...u done mushy now eat."
