Name: Gale Li-Morgan
Species: Human
Sex: Male
Age: 80 (ish)
Origin: Alderaan
Occupation: Captain, The Pale Sacred
Gale Li-Morgan has been too curious for his own good from an early age. It is a trait which, though frequently his downfall, was once his salvation at an early age. On Alderaan's last day, six year-old Gale attempted to follow his teen-aged brother who was leaving for an orbital training flight. But Gale stowed away on the wrong vessel; the crew of small-time arms smugglers, in their panic at the arrival of the unfathomable Death Star--which they imagined to have appeared in orbit with the sole purpose of repaying them for their crimes against the Empire--didn't notice that the dock boy who rushed departure documents to the captain never disembarked. Minutes before the Death Star fired, the Bad Noise jumped out of the system, and Gale's career as a spacer began as a piece of contraband.
Gale spent the rest of his childhood bouncing from vessel to vessel, doing odd jobs and learning, out of necessity, the arts of shipping, smuggling and fighting along the galaxy's space lanes. Throughout the remainder of his childhood--such as it was--he was driven by the conviction that his homeworld's fate was a consequence of his parents' involvement in the Rebellion (his mother was a representative in Alderaan's local government, and his father was an officer in the planet's small defensive fleet; both were rumored to be Rebel sympathizers). Although maturity eventually led him to let that childish perception go, perhaps those years of bitter fear shaped the apolitical animal Gale eventually became. He never grew more than marginally involved in the Rebellion, and that only by circumstance; instead, he shirked all political affiliation and generally jumped ship on any job at the first sign of Imperial involvement.
As an adult, with the Imperial remnant in need of mopping-up, Gale found gainful employment in the New Republic's navy, first as a starship technician and then a commando. He performed competently, if with perhaps a little less zeal than his fellow soldiers; however, after five years of active duty in the fleet he was discharged for conduct unbecoming an officer. With the New Republic dead and little left in the way of records, the reasons are unknown; and Gale certainly doesn't bring it up frequently.
How Gale came to possess his strange starship, The Pale Sacred, is another subject he rarely discusses, and then never at length. However, as little as is known about the vessel's history, Gale would seem to be the one sentient who knows more about its archaic systems and strange design than any other known being in the galaxy. After forty-odd years at the helm, it's the closest thing to a home he's ever had.
In spite of the relatively recent re-appearance of Gale's older sister, Cara Li-Morgan (see her bio for more information), family still isn't something Gale knows much about. Underneath his gruff exterior lies a grizzled interior without much in the way of social skills. In spite of his age, he seems in excellent health (barring the occasional heart murmur); although Death has come knocking many a time, it probably didn't pass muster under Gale's fierce scrutiny and was turned away from the door as untrustworthy. Regardless, he seems to command some loyalty from his crew--enough, at least, that the core members have yet to abandon ship or mutiny. Whether this is due to Gale's sparkling charm and quick wit, or his knack for sniffing out lucrative contracts, is anybody's guess.
