The 7-foot tall, living armored cybernetic Jedi killer known as Mutilus has been in the shadows of the Dark Side for at least a 100 years. Mutilus’ story begins back before the days of the Old Republic, when the Infinite Empire ruled the galaxy. At this time the Force was at its strongest, and the Infinite Empire had complete understanding of its power. In doing so they created things that could control the galaxy, or destroy it. The Star Forge was their most popular and longest lasting creation. Living to surpass even its creators. It came to orbit around an unknown planet in the outer rim. Here the Star Forge fed off the planet’s Force energy, mostly the Dark Side energy that was within it. As the story goes on, a man named Revan and his apprentice Malak, had visions of this Star Forge and set out to find it. In finding it they would have a power beyond compare in the galaxy, and the Old Republic would fall under Sith rule. This quest never succeeded, and the Star Forge was said to be destroyed when the Republic got word of its location.
Thousands of years later, a lone scientist under the Empire’s order was to investigate new powers throughout the galaxy in hopes of turning the tide in the Empire’s favor. The Rebels were putting up too much of a fight and the Emperor and his apprentice Darth Vader were hoping to find anyway of winning. This lone scientist managed to turn up some evidence about the history of a craft that fed off the Dark Side of the Force, the Star Forge. What was most important to him though was that this Star Forge had the ability to absorb the Force around it to make it stronger. The documents he got from this were placed deep within the Old Republic records of the old Jedi Council. Since Coruscant was under Imperial rule, the council and any other place that held records was now in their grasp. As the scientist continued his research of the Ancient Star Forge, he came across that the creators of this ship were beings that existed before the beginning of the Republic itself. It would take another ten years before any more evidence on this Dark Side feeding battle station would come to rise.
Three years before the fall of the Galactic Empire the scientist had everything he needed from the studies of this ancient culture. With all this information, he started to try and manipulate that which created the Star Forge. In doing this he wanted to create an armor that didn’t just feed off the Dark Side, but both sides of the Force. To the scientist’s luck he succeeded, but by the time he did, the Empire was decaying. The Emperor and his apprentice Vader were destroyed in the Second Death Star. No money was being brought in for the new project and all hopes for it were disappearing. Soon an Imperial Officer named Galak Fyarr would come to find out about this lone scientist’s project and took some light on it. Fyarr himself was a great mind also, he himself created the famous black armor, Cortosis. From this partnership, the project to create the living technology of the Infinite Empire began once again.
Another ten years went by, before Fyarr and the lone scientist finally got the problem solved, its equation and rhythmic sequences were so old that no one could understand them, but it was soon enough that they solved what was needed. The experiment was underway, but with each test subject there was failure. Finally, the lone scientist thought to use himself in the experiment and see if the new armor of the Infinite Empire, mixed with the Cortosis armor of Admiral Fyarr would be able to exist on a human host. Fyarr running out of ideas and time let the aging scientist get his wish. The experiment that came out of this human subject, was far from a success, and was a failure to what was intended. When the armor came to live and feed from the Force around it, it needed that human host to support it as a living life form. So in essence it was using the scientist as a life source. The Cortosis armor didn’t mold with the new Infinite Empire armor but grew over top of it. The new Infinite Empire armor technology filtered itself throughout the soft human flesh of the scientist, as it did this, it burned and replaced the tissue that was around the scientist’s body. In the experiment itself, the scientist’s mind was destroyed and what was left was the presence of Darkness. Basically, the scientist was alive but through the Dark Side energies flowing throughout the armor it drove the human mind into insanity.
It would come to be that right after the experiment was done, that Fyarr quickly put in HRD enhancements throughout the scientist’s body, this way movement with the armor that was on him was possible and the ease of motion and strength would be accessible. It wasn’t long before the armor fed on enough Force energy to awaken the human host, the scientist’s eyes flashed open one last time as his true self only to be taken control of by the Infinite Armor. It would only be a few days after that the crew was destroyed and Fyarr lefted without knowledge of what happened. Fyarr would go on to side with Desann; a fallen Jedi from Luke Skywalker’s Jedi Academy and then be later killed by Kyle Katarn on the Doomgiver.
Mutilus was what the creature now came to call himself, probably because of his horrifying appearance. His presence to the galaxy would go unnoticed for a number of years after the Vong invasion. The living Infinite Armor needed time to adapt to this new time period, and in doing so, it traveled to different locations throughout the galaxy. Every location full of Darkness was to be known and soon location after location was to be visited and fed from. Mutilus soon made his mark on the Galaxy when he traveled to a planet called Bestine IV.
Mutilus finally made his first appearance infront of a Jedi on the planet of Bestine IV. The Jedi had never felt anything like Mutilis before and underestimated the new creature’s talents. With Mutilus hungering for the Force from within the Jedi, the Jedi took action and defended himself. Even though the Jedi had felt a loss in his connection with the Force when Mutilus closed in, the Jedi managed to give Mutilus a fight. In the end though Mutilus absorbed the Force around him and left the Jedi to his own natural abilities, and with that the Jedi grew tired. Mutilus took advantage and killed the Jedi with his own lightsaber. The Jedi fell dead and became one with the Force. Mutilus thought it wise to keep the lightsaber of this dead Jedi to show a sign of power over all Force users.
Years past and Mutilus came to run into other Jedi scattered throughout the universe, each time killing them. One day though a young Jedi named Serix, came across Mutilus’ travels. Serix was far more powerful then expected, and Mutilus noticed that even without the full connection to the Force Serix was a formidable opponent. Serix happened to be of the Falleen race, and his natural abilities gave him the speed and strength to keep up with Mutilus. In the end, Mutilus was the victor and took Serix under his wing, as an apprentice. With this, the Dark Side flowing through Mutilus entered Serix, destroying his very identity and turning him into an insane follower of the Dark Side. Serix would go on to kill many Jedi, but never could control the Dark Side power that was given to him by Mutilus.
With Serix as his new assassin, Mutilus continued to travel the galaxy in search of planets strong in the Force. Mutilus though after killing Jedi hungered for the feeling of death and soon went to hunt down the Jedi and all other Force users.
