The Hapes Consortium has had no choice but to treat the Um-Shara Event as some kind of weapon impact. Studies of the Red--now officially called the Cloak in Hapan circles--and its effects are spearheaded by the Prince of Hapes, Nikolaus Buffton. On the basis of his discoveries and those of his people, he has accelerated the refitting and positioning of an old Golan platform and called together a small team for a mission.
The new Mand'alor, Kel'dan, brother of Ker'dan, voyages to Pirrbfial to establish relations and assuage fears there if he can, ahead of a move by the Consortium to offer a portion of the Mandalorian population refuge on the sparsely populated colony.
Meanwhile, the small group that ventured into the red cloud has at last reached the outskirts of Um-Shara itself and already discovered that the projections of what they would find may not prove entirely trustworthy....
