Just some guidelines that I wanted to post for Force Sensatives. I've been reminded of the past version of EOTF a few times - a version in which the most powerful characters in the game could crack planets open with the Force. Force storms got thrown at people, and Force lightning was considered a WEAK power.
In this game, there are no Jedi Gods, no Sith Demons. There are powerful characters, to be sure, and Phobos is a dangerously powerful foe... but as for Jedi abilities, I want to refer to the movies for our guidance. In the movies, especially in Episode III, we see some increcible abilities being employed - particularly the Emperor's nasty lightning strikes. There's some incredible leaps, some powerful uses of the Force to smash things aside...
And that's it. There are no cities being torn asunder by the Dark Side, no resurrection of characters, no instant healing through the Dark Side (Palpatine's face, anyone?)
So here's what I think. The Average Jedi Character, starting as an Apprentice, is capable of back flips, basic leaps, jumps, uses of the Force - the kind of stuff we see from Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode I or Luke Skywalker during his training on Dagobah.
A Jedi Knight, a more advanced, better trained character, is capable of the kind of feats we see Obi-Wan Kenobi employ during Episode II, or Qui-Gon Jinn in Episode I. Again. Nothing overly flashy.
A Jedi MASTER character (of which we have three active characters at this time) is a powerful being capable of the kind of feats we see employed by Obi-Wan Kenobi in Episode III. But again ... The Emperor doesn't call a Force Storm on Yoda during the duel, and Yoda doesn't just absorb/deflect the lightning all day. He gets POUNDED by it after a bit.
But there are no Luke Skywalkers in our game. Well, one, but he's dead. There are no Vaders. Phobos is a dangerous and powerful foe, but even he isn't on the scale of POTENTIAL that Luke and his Father obtained.
I'm giving you guys these basic guidelines because I know we all want the game to be fair AND fun, and it's better for us as a group to have an understanding of what a Jedi Knight is capable of ... rather than having 18 characters defining what a Jedi Knight is capable of in their own ways. I know the temptation is to create a godlike, invulnerable character, but please don't. You'll find it much for fun not to. Cliona Maelstrom, arguably the most well-trained and experienced Jedi out there right now, has been defeated - beaten to a bloody pulp - twice now. Once by Phobos. She can still handle herself, but she's not a god.
Nor should anyone else be. Some characters - LIKE Phobos - are naturally more powerful than other characters because of whom they are as plot devices. But you'll never see Phobos throw a Force Storm at anyone.
But that being said, I am okay with the notion of characters who specialize in one ability that may or may not be natural for a Jedi Knight or Apprentice to be so adept in. Cliona is called "the Stormwitch" by her people or "Jedi Stormwitch" by the Resistance. She is adept at controlling winds and currents and can create a powerful windstorm or gale - (not a Force storm, just a localized Windstorm like you have in natural weather - and not anything like a hurricane or a tornadoe.) Other characters might be master Healers, or talented energy-absorbers like Corran Horn or Telekinetic adepts capable of moving large stones with the greatest of ease. I'm okay with those natural talents. But again - no absorbing a lightsaber strike or living a small MOON.
Keep it real.
*Note* The Game Masters reserve the right to step in when a character appears to be inordinately powerful for his or her place in the game and ask that the character's abilities be toned down. If they are not, the character may be considered to be God-Moding.
